Ultrasound Basics Part 2

Synopsis

Participants will learn about the frequency tradeoff between penetration and resolution, the Piezoelectric effect, how images are generated, two-dimensional imaging in a plane, appropriate orientation of the probe, orientation conventions, rules for orientation, and what black and white represent in the image. Upon completion of the lesson, participants should have a solid understanding of the basics of ultrasound.

This module is suitable for all healthcare professionals.

The author is Dr. Chris Moore, Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine as our lead contributor and author. Dr. Moore is fellowship trained in emergency ultrasound and has founded and directed the Section of Emergency Ultrasound at Yale.
